My '06 V8 Northstar has always rattled from brand new. It sounds like a diesel or a '49 Oldsmobile with a bad cam but goes like stink. The noise comes and goes with very slight changes in throttle pressure. It's quiet at idle but just as soon as the RPM comes up enough to raise the oil pressure to where the locking pin is withdrawn the torsional vibration takes over and noise increases.

There is a pin that locks the sprocket to the cam at low speeds. This pin wears and rattles with old age. As engine revs increase, oil pressure withdraws this pin. At this point the actuator can make rattling noises that come and go with a multitude of different conditions.
