I have purchased new key FOBS for my 1996 Eldorado, Now heres the kicker..... I was able to program them 'no problem', but sometimes they will work and most of the time they don't. I have placed fresh battaries in both so that's not the issue. Has anyone heard of anything as far as the RKE system that could go faulty that I might can check?

Also check the circuit board for loose solder joints. I have had to resolder both of my wifes key fobs. The "C" clip that holds the battery in place has considerable pressure on it (at least in this particular type) and the pins that secure it to the circuit board seem to break loose.

The RKE module is only a receiver. The key fob is a transmitter. Any quality locksmith can test the transmitters (key fob) for signal strength. If that checks out, then it is the receiver.
I know this is an old thread, but my RKE refuses to work. Dealer said it was the RKE module and I replaced it, and it still doesn't work. The tech 2 said it successfully programmed but the fob doesnt work and its brand new and the correct one.

What else could it possibly be?
