Got a Steering wheel cover,Heated.
Wanted to incorporate it so that the existing switch could be used, AND,
removal in the summer time.
Well,Did it. Remove the air bag module, and straighten the wheel.
the wires on the left are for the heater. the two YELLOW ones are for the
heater, and the smaller red ones are (were) for a sensor.
There is a module that controls this heater.
In the Pics it shows How I tapped into the power to the cover, through
a connector on the left of the wheel.
If you test it without replacing the ABS module, you may get a CEL, and have
to clear it. Offset your connections so they will NOT short out.
Safety: as the cover heats up, and IT's thermostat turns off, it disables the
module, and you have to turn it ON, double Click.
disconnect the two red wires and insulate from each other.
Tap into the two Yellow wires, with the cut piece from the power cable,
supplied with the cover. when finished this works VERY well, and looks as GOOD !
When drilling into the wheel for the connector, go as FAR back as possible. I did not,
and you can see I needed to trim the cover with the buttons to allow for the connector.
Disclaimer: this works for me, Do this at your OWN risk, although, I don't think there is
risk, as there is a fuse to protect this circuit.
Oh Yeah, this cover is PIA to get on, you can use soap, but remember there will be leather
underneath, You really NEED strong fingers, as It was 50 % on,I said NO WAY this can fit
this wheel, but I persisted, 4 strong hands would have helped.
For about $ 22.00, this is GREAT ! Have Fun !
If you want FULL functionality, a NEW Wheel is in your future for about $ 700.00 +
Santa, Wish I had a wheel to play with to get the original heater working.....
Happy Motoring ! :cool2::cool::xsmile:
