Deleting drivers 3 and up from DIC or fob memory

Is this possible? I can't tell which FOB I'm using or even if either are the original. In my earlier thread I mentioned frustration programming the seats and then discovered the FOB might have been a replacement because the key wasn't cut. So I started using the other fob and have had some luck ie; the Exit works but I have to push the Memory 1 button for my preferred setting.

I believe I pressed both 1 & 2 during set up. I really hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

Also, see the link below. In the YT channel description is says:

3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle. The DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). Remaining transmitters can be relearned during the next steps.

You can do it with a scan tool if you know someone or a shop that you're friendly with. With a scan tool, you do not have to delete everything and pair fresh. You can delete individual fobs, and renumber the ones you have.

Hmmm, thanks for the replies. I have two fobs, I believe one is original and the second a replacement because the key isn't cut. If I do the above procedure to the replacement will it effect the original?

It's raining pretty good here so I may not be able to report back for some time, Again, thanks.

The way I understand it; the procedure (from the video) will remove programming from all FOBS (after the 3rd repeat), which are then re-programmed, with the first FOB reprogrammed being # 1 - ie. driver 1.

Text from the video description:

1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle; then turn the key counterclockwise, to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

2. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). The DIC display will again show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

The DIC display should now show READY FOR REMOTE # 1.

4. Place the new transmitter in the transmitter pocket with buttons facing the rear of the vehicle. The transmitter pocket is inside the center console storage area between the driver and front passenger seats. The storage area will need to be opened to access the transmitter pocket.

5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next transmitter.

6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press unlock or lock on the transmitter. To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4–6. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

After reprogramming all fobs does one become Driver 1 and the other Driver 2?

This is far too complicated. My last Caddie was a '06 CTS and the fobs were numbered on the back. And the preference setting was simple. Then my last vehicle, '15 Lariat was simple as well. Preferences were automatic in and out.

It's more complicated because you want to erase the settings linked to the FOBS and then reprogram them linking them to new settings. Write the instructions down if needed and use them once in the car to go through the procedure.

The video doesn't go through making your settings linked to the FOB, just how to erase the FOBS previous settings and have them then programmed and ready for new settings.

First programmed one becomes Driver 1 or FOB 1. When the FOBS are programmed, take one that will be yours, make all your settings - seat position, steering wheel, side mirror, etc. and save by pressing Set + 1 on the door, then set the seat exit position. Done. Those settings are what will come up when using the FOB you selected. FOB 2 can be done with settings for Driver 2.

I've gotten somewhere! Been raining heavily for a few days but I got out today. Tried using the other FOB and all my preferences were recalled and the DIC said "Driver 2". Used it successfully today and am satisfied with it. Got home and tried the other FOB. Didn't set my preferences. Had to select from the mem button. Still performed the exit as desired. Indicated "Driver 3". I'm happy with that. If I have to use that FOB I can hit the mem button for my preferences. But if I can make that one "Driver 1", that would be good.

What it says for Driver # is not all that important imo as long as you know That particular FOB/Driver# has your settings...engrave your initials onto it ;) ... But if you want them listed as Driver 1, Driver 2 instead of Driver2, Driver 3,- they have to be erased and re-programmed.

The FOBS, one at a time, have to be erased and reprogrammed. The way I understand it, the first re- programmed FOB becomes the Driver 1 FOB. Remaining re-programmed FOBS will be sequential, ie. second FOB done becomes the Driver 2 FOB. Your owner's manual has information about the maximum number of FOBS that can be programmed to the vehicle, for my '19 XTS the number is eight.
