Well...what if Ford brought the popular Falcon to American shores? Would Chevy/GM take the hint?

GM already has the Holden Monaro/GTO over here. They need to bring us that Holden Caprice, or the Chinese Buick based on the Holden Caprice platform.

I'm really happy to see at least ONE American manufacturer sticking with their old familiar names.

But I could do without Maverick or Pinto.

The last time Ford imported a Aussie vehicle it flopped! Quality sucked.

Anyone remember the 2 seat Capri?

Even if the quality were equal to Toyota, a FWD sports car (isn't that an oxymoron?) will always have very limited appeal.

I think being FWD contributed more to it's failure than any quality issues. It's lackluster styling as compared to the Miata also introduced the same year also didn't help.

Re: Would GM be pressured to bring more aussi platforms over if Ford brought the falcon?

What GM should've done, instead of rebadging the HSV as a "GTO" would've been to bring the car over as a Holden. It wouldn't be seen as a fake, and GM would have a great brand to make some noise with.

Holden could be big in North America.

Re: Would GM be pressured to bring more aussi platforms over if Ford brought the falcon?

FWD , and yet a sportscar ....but it didnt sell well either ...but boy are they fun to drive ...another car on my "must own" list

i also liked the FWD capri ....but i liked the 5.0 liter capris beatter , sandy would agree with me , beatter yet was the original capri (ok there was a lincolin capri in the 50s),the early 70s is what ford is debateing releaseing a retro of (called living legand) not unlike thrunderbird,GT, and mustang of lately
the original and only real "capri" IMHO:

Considered an abomination to most Lotus afficiandos, which explains it's failure in the market place. If a hardcore Lotus enthusiast won't buy it, who will?

It might be a good used car value now though. But not a very good speculative investment.

I'd still rather have an Elan, or even a Europa.

The Holden division IS ALREADY "set up" as they have been since 1948. All they would have to do is appoint dealers........

There IS ENOUGH re-badging going on and that DESTROYS brand character. (remember the Cimmer, Catera?? BLS will prove this too as the Europeans may not be fooled so easily.) ALSO, there is NO need to divert resources to Holden as they are already paid for.

However, Holden might steal some sales from competitors and provide some free money for GM in the process. The only major expense would be an add campaign.
