While Cadillac is a name that's synonymous with quality, luxury and award-winning customer service for most people, many people do not know the history of the Cadillac name. Interestingly, the name "Cadillac" came from the name of the founder of Detroit, Michigan, who was a French explorer in the 18th century. The first Cadillac was totally complete in 1902 but was not seen by the curious eyes of the public until the following year. Of course, the public was excited about the vehicle, and more than two thousand units were ordered that very day. From that day on, the Cadillac was known as a beautiful, stylish, reliable, and luxurious vehicle. From the very beginning the Cadillac has been synonymous with those that want the finer things in life - and Cadillacs are fine automobiles.

Cadillac is not only known because they produce beautiful, reliable cars and trucks, but also because they haven’t been afraid to leap ahead in the past and be the first to do things. One of the first things that Cadillac did that no one else had done in a mass produced car is power a vehicle with a V8 engine. Cadillac was the first car manufacturer to put some real power behind the wheel of its vehicle, and it did so in 1915 to the excitement of car lovers worldwide. The Cadillac was also the first car to have an electric start engine instead of having to be cranked, as earlier cars had been. This of course was a huge piece of history, as it changed the way we all use and view vehicles.

From post war times until the present day, the Cadillac has enjoyed being known as a vehicle that provides consumers with luxury and quality. Not only do Cadillac vehicles look good, they also provide passengers with a great ride, the driver with easy handling, and styling that is unique to Cadillac, though there are those that try to duplicate and imitate.

Of course, history wouldn’t be history without mentioning the low points for Cadillac. Cadillac had always known who its target consumer was, but in the 1980s they tried to go for entry level buyers by producing more compact vehicles, such as the Cimarron. This of course, did not go over well, because it did not fit with what people expected of Cadillac and the younger audience that they were targeting knew that they could buy other compact cars that suited their needs for less than they could buy a Cadillac. Unfortunately, the Cimarron was never really given much of a chance before consumers responded negatively and Cadillac moved on.

The Cadillac of today is much different in appearance from that first Cadillac seen in 1903, but still it has the same luxury, quality, comfort, and reliability in common. Cadillac appeals to many people today with its beautiful cars, as well as its luxury sport utility vehicles such as the Escalade. Current Cadillac vehicles sport razor-sharp lines, stacked headlights, sharp looking grilles and a standard 100,000 mile warranty. As they have in the past, Cadillac is meeting the needs of all of the consumers that are looking for luxury, comfort, quality, reliability, and even power. This has been a trend with Cadillac from the very beginning and will likely continue well into the future.

My horrible Christmas dinner.
Image: http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/46331-1/SSPX0761.jpg Mom went to Thailand for Christmas so my brother and I were left to fend for ourselves for Christmas dinner. Walgreens was the only store open, and their selection consisted of milk, cereal, canned soup, and this bizarre offering of DWIGHT YOAKAMS CHICKIN LICKINS PIZZA FRIES. The box reads "My o mia that sure tastes a like a pizza!" as if country singer Dwight Yoakam has any ties to Italian food or the Mario Brothers. Not shockingly, these were on clearance as a discontinued item, $1.59. Image: http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/46328-1/SSPX0760.jpg The list of ingredients reads like a medical dictionary. One billion calories per serving. Image: http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/46325-1/SSPX0759.jpg SACK OF FAIL! Image: http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/46322-1/SSPX0758.jpg Image: http://www.q45.org/gallery2/d/46319-1/SSPX0757.jpg Tastes like failure. They were spongy inside. Nothing about it tasted or looked anything like chicken, and they weren't anything like fries either. Battered strips of low-end rib meat.

Longevity
I thought it would be interesting to know how many members of this forum hang on to their cars for more then a few years. It seems quite a few would rather lease or buy buy a new car every few years. Leasing is not for me and buying a new car every few years is not economically feasible so I tend to hang on to my cars longer then most. For example I have 3 1/2 cars. 1. My semi daily driver is 2005 Suburban Z71 fully loaded. I sold my 1990 Suburban with over 200k miles to buy the '05. Total of 15 years and only had to put a new tranny in it at 130K. Way to go GM. 2. I guess you can say this is my wife's daily driver since I sold her 1995 Blazer LT for the CTS. No need having 2 4WDs, especially in California. The Cad is a DI fully loaded with the F3. We love this car and will most likely have it for many years. Image: http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/5269/img5287iy2.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Image: http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/img5287iy2.jpg/1/w800.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img379/img5287iy2.jpg/1/) 3. Well my other semi daily driver, weather permitting, is my 1964 Nova SS. It just turned 45 years young and I'm proud to say I've owned it for 40 of the those years. This car has always been in the family and I'm the second owner, my brother in-law was the first. The Nova sold for just over $3,600 out the door. This car is extremely rare; I was told less the 1500 were made with these SS options. It is an all numbers matching with the original 283 V8 and Muncie 4speed. The car has been slightly modified with Disc brakes, the original 195 HP 283 CI taken out all the way to 301 CI with the usual tricks, balance/clearance, head work, cam, intake, ignition... etc. This car will eat the CTS in the 1/4 mile. Best time was a 13.21 ET at just over 100MPH. After that the CAD will kick it's ass but not bad for a senior citizen. The car has been appraised for over 30K but it will never be sold. This car could tell a lot of stories and I know them all. Image: http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/2447/973cz4.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Image: http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/973cz4.jpg/1/w800.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img211/973cz4.jpg/1/) 1/2. I almost forgot about the 1/2. This is not a driver yet and never has been in the 12 years I've owned it. I bought it for one of my sons as a project that never quite got off the ground until recently. It is another Nova, 1962 convertible. It is what us unibody guys refer to as rotisserie restore instead of body off. The car is about a year away from rolling but when it does it will definitely turn heads. Motor and tranny has yet to be determined but it will be pumped. We put a sub frame clip by CPP as well as rack and pinion. Not looking for autocross handling but just a good cruiser. As you can see I love American iron and when I find something I like I keep it. Figured out the 2006 STS I bought in the summer does not have a block heater. Just wondering if anyone has the part number for it - I would like to compare pricing in the US (dealership here wants $460 or so). Also, does anyone have any info on how to install? Thanks.

cant get thermo vaccuum switch for 1975 500
hi, I have a 1975 deville and have a broken thermo vaccuum switch. Its the sensor that screws into the block under the distribator, and has two vaccuum ports to connect vaccuum hoses to. I went to auto zone they didnt have it. Went to the junk yard they were all broken. I called rockauto they had something simmilar but it had 3 ports comming out like on a 76 caddy. On my 75 deville its only 2 vaccuum ports comming out and a vent. Would anyone know if i could use that 3 prong vaccuum switch in my 75 and just cap one of the ports. If not where could i get the right tvs. Also is there anyway to hook up the vaccuum hoses without using the thermo vaccuum switch altogether. any help would be thankfull. thank you bob
