While Cadillac is a name that's synonymous with quality, luxury and award-winning customer service for most people, many people do not know the history of the Cadillac name. Interestingly, the name "Cadillac" came from the name of the founder of Detroit, Michigan, who was a French explorer in the 18th century. The first Cadillac was totally complete in 1902 but was not seen by the curious eyes of the public until the following year. Of course, the public was excited about the vehicle, and more than two thousand units were ordered that very day. From that day on, the Cadillac was known as a beautiful, stylish, reliable, and luxurious vehicle. From the very beginning the Cadillac has been synonymous with those that want the finer things in life - and Cadillacs are fine automobiles.
Cadillac is not only known because they produce beautiful, reliable cars and trucks, but also because they haven’t been afraid to leap ahead in the past and be the first to do things. One of the first things that Cadillac did that no one else had done in a mass produced car is power a vehicle with a V8 engine. Cadillac was the first car manufacturer to put some real power behind the wheel of its vehicle, and it did so in 1915 to the excitement of car lovers worldwide. The Cadillac was also the first car to have an electric start engine instead of having to be cranked, as earlier cars had been. This of course was a huge piece of history, as it changed the way we all use and view vehicles. |

From post war times until the present day, the Cadillac has enjoyed being known as a vehicle that provides consumers with luxury and quality. Not only do Cadillac vehicles look good, they also provide passengers with a great ride, the driver with easy handling, and styling that is unique to Cadillac, though there are those that try to duplicate and imitate.
Of course, history wouldn’t be history without mentioning the low points for Cadillac. Cadillac had always known who its target consumer was, but in the 1980s they tried to go for entry level buyers by producing more compact vehicles, such as the Cimarron. This of course, did not go over well, because it did not fit with what people expected of Cadillac and the younger audience that they were targeting knew that they could buy other compact cars that suited their needs for less than they could buy a Cadillac. Unfortunately, the Cimarron was never really given much of a chance before consumers responded negatively and Cadillac moved on.
The Cadillac of today is much different in appearance from that first Cadillac seen in 1903, but still it has the same luxury, quality, comfort, and reliability in common. Cadillac appeals to many people today with its beautiful cars, as well as its luxury sport utility vehicles such as the Escalade. Current Cadillac vehicles sport razor-sharp lines, stacked headlights, sharp looking grilles and a standard 100,000 mile warranty. As they have in the past, Cadillac is meeting the needs of all of the consumers that are looking for luxury, comfort, quality, reliability, and even power. This has been a trend with Cadillac from the very beginning and will likely continue well into the future.

87k & Bullet Proof !
It has been a while since I posted on this site but I thought i would chime in. My '05 STS4 V8 now has 87,000 ( metro NYC ) miles on it and I wanted all of you to know this car continues to amaze me. Without doubt it is the most dependable car I have ever owned ! Fit & finish look as good as the day I picked the STS up and it rides tight with no rattles added from wear & tear.
I plan on going to 200,000 miles before I go for my new Cadillac. By then I am hoping for the new ultra luxury top of the line model that replaces the STS & DTS.
Anyone thinking Cadillac or a GM product, trust me, BUY IT!!!
Recently purchased a 1998 STS... few questions
First post :)
A few months ago I purchased a fully loaded 98 STS and after fully reading the owners manual a few times I still have a few questions I could not answer myself. (Keep in mind this is my first car and I am neat freak about this thing so everything has to be perfect... heh...)
1) The car has two memory settings (driver 1 & driver 2) however no matter what I try to do when I start up the car it ALWAYS starts in driver #2's setting. While I know this is not the end of the world I would really like it to start in driver #1 (yes I have OCD i know) I have scoured through the Owners manual many times and cannot seem to find the answer for the life of me.
2) I also read that you can customize the memory settings so that they are displayed as your name ie. "John Smith" instead of "Driver 1." However in the manual it says this needs to be done at a dealership. Is there anyway I can do this on my own? I'm fairly handy so I think I could handle it if I am given directions.
3)The latch that fastens the lid for the center console is broken, is there a cheap and easy way to fix this? Or is it necessary to go to a dealership? I can provide pics if necessary (I would take pics now but I left my camera at school)
4) The drivers side view mirror was broken when I was hit a few weeks ago (left it parked out front of my house for FIVE MINUTES and some old man hit me ) I took apart the housing and discovered that the motor is still fully functioning, the only problem is that the glass is broken. I did some research and it turns out it costs a few hundred dollars to replace b/c it has heat and light sensors in the glass bla bla bla. Is there anyway to find this mirror for
99 Deville ABS and Trackion Control
When I start the car the panel check lamps come on but the traction control and ABS lamps stay on. Some times the lamps go out like they should. Most of the time the lamps stay on and I have to clear the lamps by turning the key off and restarting the car. These lights never come on while I am driving. Can some help!
Thanks
Speaker covers loose
I have a 1997 Cadillac Catera with the 8 way speaker Bose system. I heard rattling in both front speakers by side-view mirrors. Well turns out the glue wore of on them and drivers side is completely loose and can pull it down and see the back speaker foam pad. Passenger side is better probably 60% secure.
My question is can you buy a glue/adhesive and reseal the loose covers and get them completely sealed again with no openings. I already tried gorilla glue worked okay temporary fix i need something faster so i can just hold it in place.Any advice i live near autozone, advanced auto parts anybody now good stuff to buy from there?

Question, What bushings are in the picture?
I bought a used 05 V with 11k miles about one month ago. I installed a shifter today and took this picture with my phone while it was on the lift. I thought it had stock bushings because the wheel hop is horrible, but these look aftermarket to me. What company are these from? Thanks in advance, Pete.

Windshield Wiper Issue
Just a couple weeks ago, my windshield wipers stopped working. A few days before, I was messing with the fuses to try and find a solution to a different issue. I think I might have messed with the wiper fuse, so that's the only lead I have so far. Can anybody tell me which fuse is the one for the wipers?? Or if somebody has some sort of diagram of the fuses that would be equally useful. Thanks for your help,
Lee
2002 DTS CarPC Installed!!! - Lots of pics!!!
Finally!!!
This is my second carPC install, and it definitely gets easier the second time around! The goal (again) was to keep it looking as close to factory stock as possible, and also not permanently do any modifications, just in case I want to return it to stock (yeah, when i sell it!) :)
It was nice to have all the parts and pieces from the first one, and of course the knowledge that came with the other install. ;)
First off, the car itself, after a wash. 2002 Cadillac DTS...

Here are some shots of the work in progress:
This is how the factory bezel was converted to an LCD bezel (yes those are popsicle sticks! Big thumbs up to Nexon for an awesome job!!!

Here is s shot of the bezel after I got it treated by Phoenix Imaging. I was out of the box for about 30 seconds when I took the pic.

In order to make it fit the factory radio cavern and still be secure when it was mounted, I needed to be a bit creative with the LCD and various boards. I took a piece of felt covered ABS and trimmed it to size:
Image: http://quantumoptical.com/caddy/2002carpc/2boards.jpg
Then I used the original LCD bezel screw holes to run strips of ABS across the top and bottom.
Image: http://quantumoptical.com/caddy/2002carpc/bezelback.jpg
A few L brackets, some nylon screws, and even a piece of 3/4" ply for stability on the driving board. The pic doesn't do it justice. It is super secure, not too tight so the touch screen goes all funky, and slips right into the opening for the radio.

Inside the hole for the radio is a GMOS-06. The radio is an integral part of the Class 2 Communications. Without it, codes pop up like crazy on the DIC and nothing works right. So, I bought the GMOS-06 to keep my Onstar working (not activated, but it is not disabled), all my chimes work, and the Line-Out jack of the PC is split into RCA jacks to pump PC sound through the factory BOSE amps and speakers. It is SO loud and crystal clear!
The other cool part about the GMOS-06 is I did not have to run any wires at all. Just plugged it into the factory harness, hooked up the RCAs and I was done. You'll see in the pics I terminated all the unused wires.
This unit mutes the PC sound (fades) when you hit the Onstar button, and fades back in when the Onstar command is cancelled. This is cool because I have a Bluetooth - Onstar converter I am beta-testing by RustyBlazerDude (being installed next), and in theory when a call comes in, or I want to make a call to on my Motorola Q, I should be able to use the Onstar buttons on the mirror. Start call, music mutes, end call, music comes back on. All without any software that is iffy for the PC with Motorola phones. This uses the car wiring and speakers/microphone instead.

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring)
I don't know if this is a technical issue or just something that is common with tire pressure during normal road-driving.
Yesterday I got my tires (OEM Michelin Pilot Sports) rotated for the 1st time amongst some other regularly scheduled service at the dealership. I noticed that after the service was complete that the data on the DIC was 35 psi for all tires. I noticed today when I was driving home with 2 other adult males in the car (seated front passenger and passenger rear) that I was getting tire pressure read out as follows: RF, LF, RR - between 37 and 38; LR - 35 (sometimes got 36, but after a mile or two it would go back to 35). The driving I was doing this afternoon was highway for probably about 55 miles on routes 3, 46, and 80 in Northern NJ with temps in the mid 80s. Just checked it now (~2 hrs after coming home and now the read out is 35 for RF, LF, RR and 34 for LR.
Does this sound normal for regular driving with passengers or do I need to get the TPMS for the driver-side rear reset? Worse-case scenario, can there be something wrong with the sensor? I'm going to wait a couple more days and monitor the DIC read-out as I'll do some highway driving to/from work (~15 miles).
1988 Cimarron Fasten Seat Belt Light
My 1988 Cimarron Fasten Seat Belt Light stays on after I fasten the belt. The warning sound goes off. I figure it may be the fuse, but I can't identify which fuse by the labels on the panel. Or, is it possilby something else. Thanks
